About the Masque Unit Organization

Who We Are . . .

Today with video games, television and movies as the central form of entertainment for children, live theatre returns the human element of imagination into children's lives. Masque Unit productions are adaptations of classic children's stories with music, sets, costumes and special effects. Masque Unit was started in 1961 by a group of women who saw a need to provide a live theatre experience at a reasonable cost for Marin County children. We are a nonprofit organization of volunteers pooling our talents in costuming, writing, choreography, set design, graphics, directing and on-stage performances. Our membership is open to anyone interested in our goals.

We have performed for Marin Youth in Arts for over 20 years. We also take the show on the road to children in outlying areas.

How We Do It . . .

Our production season starts with tryouts in late fall. Members and apprentices audition, the cast selected and announced. The rehearsal schedule begins after the Holiday Season in January. Performances in March generally include one weekend and two weeks of weekday performances.
